Today was sightseeing day, and I really enjoyed it so much. Because I got to see and know a lot of details about the city hardly any tourist will got to see. But there needs to be the visit of THE tourist attraction: the open air museum “Den Gamble By”
The Old Town in Aarhus, Denmark (Danish: Den Gamle By), is an open-air town museum located in the Aarhus Botanical Gardens. It consists of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country. In 1914 the museum opened as the world’s first open-air museum of its kind, concentrating on town culture rather than village culture, and to this day it remains one of just a few top rated Danish museums outside Copenhagen serving some 3.5 million visitors pr. year. Fact of the day: the world famous “Atomkraft? Nej Tak!” was painted by a painter from Aarhus onto that house and it was a friendly way to show Sweden (which has atomic plants) that Denmark is against that. I think this symbol is used worldwide meanwhile and everyone knows it.
I also saw the 2-level-bicycle-garages. They mostly fascinate foreigners arriving at the train-station in Aarhus. We also visited the town-hall and some lovely shops in the streets of downtown center before we met other LEOs at the university, where we had dinner – and for sure – cake together. Before saying good bye we attended a super nerdy quiz-night at the university bar.
Yeah guys, I really enjoyed my stay in Aarhus. I got to know so many facts about your town, your history as well as about your LEO club. I wrote down so many inspirations and I hope we can meet some day again! What about at the Sommerball in vienna?
Thank you so much for the great time with you!
Get even more inspiration!
On 400 pages I show community service of young people, whom I was able to accompany during self-organiced travels to 25 countries between 2014 and 2017.
I am designer, creative and photographer from Wels, Austria. I’ll visit 50 LEO clubs until 2017 and will publish a book about similarities and differences of volunteering around the world.
