Bruno Silva Soares
Tell us a little about you!
My name is Bruno Silva Soares, I´m from Portugal and I have 22 years old. I´m doing a Bachelor in Biology-Geology on the University and doing an internship on TJM – An environment company.
What’s your personal LEO history (which functions did you have)?
In 2006 I received an invitation to became Leo by the Leo Club of Trofa. With a little anxiety I joint my Leo Club and friends to a Carnival party in our headoffice. The other Leos received me in a friendly way and after that I started to meet them on the headoffice of or Leo Club and I start to participate on the activities with them.
After that year, I started to expand myself on Leos. I have been Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-President and President of Leo Club of Trofa.
In the District , before the joint of North with the South I have been Vice- President of the North District. In the following years I have been Vice-President of the Multiple District and President of the Multiple District for two consecutive years.
This year, 2015-2016 I’m Past-President of MD 115.
When and why did you become a LEO?
I became Leo in 2006 in a Carnival Party from my Leo Club in our headoffice with some other Leo Clubs and friends.
In this all years of Leo how did you keep your motivation? And how you motivate the others?
Since 2006, when I joined the Leo Movement I realized that the friendship, the concern for others and the smiles of everyone was the first motivation.
It’s true that in some moments we break our motivation and trust that we are in the right way to help the others and be volunteer in Leo Movement.
The motivation appeared in ways as a cal, a texto na image, etc. Those little things pushed me to keep forward.
And since I carry out some functions in the District and Multiple District the motivation started to came from the Leo Clubs activities and the “inspiration” to be better and make better from the national direction and friends.
To motivate the others , it’s na easy thing to say but difficult to do! So we need to be the example, the listener and we have to be the “balance point” and make sure that everyone can give his/her opinion.
What’s your message to other LEOs around the world?
To never stop smiling, talking and working to serve and be the difference in their community. That´s the purpose of the Leo Clubs to serve in their own city …trying to make it a better place.
Words can motivate but our actions can really help the others! That’s our work.
What was the most heartbreaking moment in your LEO career, which activity or event touched you most?
It’s difficult to say! I have 10 years of Leo and a lot, lot of really good and heartbreaking moments. In Portugal, the Leos have an National activity knowed by: “Children’s Activitiy”.
Every Leo Club and the National Direction spent one year working to prepare and gave one amazing weekend to institutionalized children. This activity touch everyone in every way!
In 2007, on the second year that I went to that activity, I received an spontaneous hug from a children. And that was one of the huge list of heartbreaking moments.
Did LEO change your life and why do you think it was a good choice to invest time to LEO?
Yes! Definitely yes! The Leo and Leo Clubs change my life! Change my way of helping, care about the others and prepared me for the future in a way that no school is abble to!
And most importante it taught me that when you receive a smile from someone that you help it’s like a big thank you to you!
Will you become a Lion after your LEO-time?
It’s to soon to say! I have more 8 years as Leo and I want to enjoy every moment of that 8 years.
Do you know about The LEO Book project and if yes, what do you think about it?
I met Othmar on facebook in the last year when I was President of MD, and we had a conversation in which I saw the opportunity for Portuguese Leos and Leo Clubs to be more knowed and to see the work that other Leos make in their countries. The Leo Book it’s the right project to improve Leo Clubs and Leo projects to all world.
To Othmar, my congratulations for the idea and good luck to complete the 50 Leo Clubs.

Tell me a little about your club
At the moment, in our Leo Club we have 16 Leos working! We have one meeting by month and when we have some activities to organize we do meetings every week and every Leo have some responsibility to cooperate. We made a selection of activities to the best way to arrange for the interest of all. Since delivery of meals to those who need it most, through sport, by nature supportive activities and profitable for any situation and even without fundraising activities and to improve the movement in our city. The range of ages of our members Leos – from 20 to 30 years – makes it easier to organize activities suitable for all ages. What moves us in the movement is the desire to make you smile those who do not have so many life opportunities to do so. We make efforts during the fiscal year for one of our core activities – Activity of Children in Torch – is filled by the largest number of children in our county. Otherwise these feelings and smile them not manifest in their day-to-day.
